According to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce by 2010, more than 80 percent of all jobs will require skill levels beyond high school and all workers, no matter the profession, will need training and education at the college level. To meet these needs and prepare students for the fast-changing, global marketplace, Oklahoma higher education offers a number of career planning services. Check out the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook for information on occupations expected to grow in the future and training skills needed.

Earn College Credits Through Career Technology Courses
Students can earn college credit while enrolled in certain courses at career technology centers through cooperative agreements signed by the State Regents and the Department of Career Technology. Participating state higher education institutions and career technology centers work together to allow Oklahoma students to receive college credit by successfully completing career technology courses that qualify for college credit. For more information, call the Student Information Hotline at 1.800.858.1840 (225.9239 in Oklahoma City).

Participate in Field Specific Camps, Programs and Academies
Summer camp isn't just about athletics. Take advantage of your summers and enroll in an area camp or academy that will enrich your understanding of different occupational fields.  Check out community councils, industry associations and college Web sites around the state for opportunities throughout the year to enroll in camps and academies for students your age. Many industry associations have an education outreach center that sponsor academic and occupation related programs in the summer. The Oklahoma State Regents sponsor  Free Summer Academies in Math & Science at Oklahoma colleges in fields such as horticulture, robotics and healthcare for middle school through high school students.
